Airlines Offering Cheap Flights
Mango Airlines
Mango was the first dedicated low-price airline within South Africa. It operates plenty of domestic flights in and around the country. The airline serves the following airports:
- Cape Town
- Johannesburg (O.R. Tambo and Lanseria)
- George
- Bloemfontein
- Durban
- Port Elizabeth
Mango Airlines was established in the year 2006 and is a subsidiary of South African Airways. They operate entirely on a low-cost ticketing system basis, and as such, on-board services are generally rather basic. Meals, snacks, and refreshments are available onboard, though merely on a buy-on-board policy.
The current Mango Airlines fleet consists of eight Boeing 737-800’s.
Kulula Airlines
Although Kulula provide their services under a separate company, they do in fact operate under the trading name of Comair which is a British Airways franchisee. Kulula, like Mango, serve strictly low-cost domestic flights within the country of South Africa. The airline operates flights between the following airports:
- Johannesburg (O.R. Tambo and Lanseria – both of which are hubs)
- Cape Town
- George
- Durban
- East London
The Kulula fleet consists of one Boeing 737-400, in addition to nine Boeing 737-800’s.
Kulula operate strictly on a low-cost basis, and as such, on-board levels of service are generally rather basic. Meals and snacks as well as refreshments are available onboard, although merely on a buy-on-board policy.
British Airways – Comair
Comair Limited airline serves a number of scheduled domestic routes within South Africa as a British Airways franchisee. Furthermore, Comair Limited operate a strictly low-cost carrier service using their own brand – Kulula.com, which was set up in 2001. The main base for their fleet is at O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg.
In September 2007, Comair extended their agreement to franchise with British Airways for a further 11 years.
The airline currently cater to the following domestic routes:

South African Airways is the official airline of the Association of Tennis Professionals and is the largest airline based within South Africa. The carrier runs a low-priced domestic airline known as Mango Airlines, with other flight links established together with Airline and South African Express.
