Comair Limited airline operates a variety of scheduled domestic routes as a British Airways franchisee based in South Africa. Furthermore, Comair Limited also operate a low-cost carrier service under their own kulala.com brand. The main base is at O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg.

Comair was founded by two South African Air Force (SAAF) colleagues and became incorporated in December 1943 as Commercial Air Services. In June of 1946, the company began charter operations.

In 1996 a franchise agreement was signed with British Airways, after which British Airways acquired a small holding in the company.

During 2001, Comair set up the low-cost airline kulula.com which represents a fully owned Comair brand.

In September 2007, Comair was to extend its’ franchise agreement together with British Airways for another 11 years.

 British Airways Check-in Times

On domestic flights, check-in opens 1 hour before departure, and closes 30 minutes before departure.

On regional flights, the check-in opens 2 hours before flights depart, and close 45 minutes before flights are due to depart.

 British Airways Baggage Allowances

Economy Class customers are offered a ‘free’ checked-in baggage allowance of a single bag of up to 23kg. Any bag found to be over 23kg will be charged at a further R250 Heavy Bag Charge, which is payable at the airport. No bags that weigh over 32kg are accepted, and must instead be sent as cargo.

Club customers (Business Class) are offered ‘free’ checked-in baggage allowances of two individual bags, and each can weigh as much as 32kg. The same benefit applies to both Silver and Gold Executive Club Members. Nevertheless, any excess baggage will attract a further fee of R350, which is payable at the airport.
