George Airport is located in George City, in South Africa’s Western Cape Province. The city makes for a popular visitor destination and also serves as a desirable conference centre. It is a popular South African destination for which many travellers seek cheap flights to George.

The city is situated approximately halfway between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, on the Garden Route. To the south lies the township of Pacaltsdorp.

The airport, which was constructed in 1977 as an exact replica of Namibia airport, was formerly known as P.W. Botha Airport, after the state president who resided in this part of the country.

In 2012, the airport served some 555,386 passengers. It is located 11km outside the centre of the city.

Mango Airlines – Mango operates on a domestic basis within South Africa. They serve the following airports:

Kulula – although Kulula operate under a separate company, they do in fact come under the trading name of Comair (British Airways franchisee). Kulula, like Mango, serve low-cost domestic flights within South Africa. The airline operates from and to the following airports:

Getting From the Airport

By Car

You can hire a car from the airport either prior to arrival (online) which is your cheapest option, or booking on arrival. Hire companies that have a presence in the airport include Sixt, Tempest, Europcar, Thrifty, and Avis.

By Bus

The main bus companies come and go from George Airport on their way along the Garden Route, journeying back and forth from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. The Baz Bus service shuttles flight arrivals into the city centre on a frequent basis.
